Investing in Calibration

CoMech FORS fleet

CoMech have grown significantly over recent years thanks to our ongoing investment, our team’s commitment to the business and their ability to set us apart as a calibration supplier with outstanding customer service (our NPS is 8.5) and fast turnaround times.

Expansion of Electrical

With all  of the work and investment completed this year combined it has enabled significant expansion of the electrical lab; all centred around turnaround times. Investing in a range of high-quality metrology equipment has enabled us to significantly speed up calibrations and facilitate a higher throughput of assets.

Our new precision calibration instruments within our UKAS laboratory are perfect for electrical, RF, temperature, humidity, pressure and flow measurements; we’re seeing a high-volume of requests for assets requiring calibration in these areas. Our investment in two new calibrators comes at a good time to ensure we’re set up to deal with a fast turnaround and efficient calibration service for customers.

Alongside the investment in equipment there’s also been a lot of training undertaken by the electrical calibration laboratory and technical teams. They’ve already successfully completed the MetCal training enabling CoMech to adapt our own MetCal procedures for electrical calibrations adapted for customer needs. UKAS Uncertainty Courses for some of our team have participated in gave them an overview of uncertainty, traceability, uncertainty budgets, their components and pass/fail criteria (decision rules) relating to ISO 17025 compliance.

We’re confident our UKAS electrical laboratory and onsite services are at the forefront of calibration for industries with electrical assets.

Putting in more Torque

CoMech have been calibrating torque wrenches for many years however due to the increase in tooling sent in and developments in the powered wrenches we decided to create a dedicated area with dedicated engineers. Within this area not only will torque wrenches and torque powered tools be calibrated but there will be expertise to complete repairs as well.

As torque wrenches are used in applications where controlled tightening is essential to ensure safety, reliability, and performance calibration is essential. Regular UKAS calibration provides traceable, validated measurements that reduce the risk of over-tightening or under-tightening. Wherever a torque wrench is used; we see them from aerospace, rail, manufacturing and the automotive sectors, having a reliable calibration partner is key to ensure accuracy and compliance within those industries.

Our latest investment is fast enabling us to become the UK’s best calibrator for torque tooling; combined with our fast turnaround times the customer feedback we’re getting is very positive on our performance.

New vans on the road

CoMech have a FORS accredited fleet with drivers who understand the importance of looking after your assets whilst in transit. We’ve just added 3 new vans to the fleet all of which have low emissions helping us to reduce our carbon footprint for collection and delivery. Our fleet cover the UK picking up assets from depots and sites across the country and delivering them back on a daily basis.

FORS accreditation is a voluntary scheme which has enabled CoMech to set higher standards for safety, efficiency, environmental protection, and overall excellence in our fleet operations.

Team expansion

This year CoMech have added number of new members to the team who’ve bought a breadth of experience with them from production planning, procurement, customer service and engineering.

  • We have more account managers who are available to talk to customers on a daily basis.
  • We’ve added more calibration technicians and engineers to our mechanical laboratory
  • And more in our electrical labs (from a senior engineer to trainees).
  • There’s been additions to our fleet team too so that we can service more customers and remove reliance on couriers.

Accreditation

Of course CoMech have multiple accreditations, and this year we’ve successfully passed our annual audits which is great news. But our next investments are expanding our ISO accreditations to cover safety and environmental.

All of the investments made in 2024 have positioned CoMech to be a perfect calibration partner as we continue to acquire new customers who are looking for great service from their provider.
