Flying At Farnborough

CoMech were privileged to be part of the recent Farnborough Airshow which was a phenomenal experience for many of our colleagues.

There was so much on show from the aerospace and defence industries at this airfield turned into a brilliant exhibition for the week.

Space travel

First up let’s talk about the Space Zone of the show, who doesn’t love spaceships and deep space? Combine that with the Space Theatre and this area was always super busy. It was brilliant to see how many companies are associated with space-driven technology and servicing the industry as well as all of the global Space Agencies that were there to talk about their space travel plans.

Can CoMech service the space industry with our calibration offering? Of course! It’s all about accuracy for this particular sector which is where metrology comes in! From temperature regulation via thermal control systems to measurement devices such as spectrometers, radiometers, and particle detectors. All of these (and much more equipment) require calibration.

Critical Defence

With such a well regarded space for the defence sector to come together, CoMech were privileged to talk to a number of highly decorated military personnel on Monday when the show kicked off.

The Farnborough International Airshow 2024 clearly played a vital role in bringing defence companies together with a range of military delegations there to talk to businesses. There were some very impressive displays in this area of the show, you had to be there to be awestruck but we hope some of our photos show you the equipment that caught our attention.

CoMech already support the armed forces with calibration services and plan to broaden our support in this area over the coming 18 months, which is something our team are keen to work on.

Future of Flight

Let’s not forget the aerospace / aviation section of this fabulous show as there were some really impressive displays from providers and tier 1 suppliers at Farnborough last week.

As the show organiser said, there were so many “companies redefining and revolutionising the aerospace sector from those pioneers making Advanced Air Mobility a reality, to the vital technological advancements being made in R&D and manufacturing.” at the exhibition.

CoMech actively provide a range of UKAS and traceable calibrations to the aerospace sector; our engineers are often onsite at major airlines during their downtime periods to calibrate all of the essential equipment and tooling.

The show covered a lot on sustainability and innovation in all the sectors mentioned above; there’s a clear drive to ensure we’re doing right by our planet as we travel around the world and have the right defence in place. This is something CoMech fully supports; calibration does provide longevity to tooling and equipment plus we have a very effective repair shop if something does fail it’s calibration.

The team had a superb time, some even squeezing in some time to get in the pilot’s seat of a jet plane! We hope that if you had time to visit that you enjoyed yourself too.

If you want to discuss how CoMech can support your calibration requirements, whether you’re in the aviation industry, defence or something else, please just get in touch.
