The aviation sector is one that CoMech entered in 2020 as a calibration partner for airline MRO departments. It’s an area that CoMech’s sales and marketing team pay close attention to so with the MRO Europe event in Barcelona this year our MD Matt Pallett (who runs the sales and marketing team) visited. An entire aviation week with exhibition halls full of everything aerospace, space and defence related was a week not to be missed by CoMech.
Good news from the sector
The UK’s aerospace sector is booming; soaring to new heights, flying high, taking off (OK we’ll stop now!); the sector saw a turnover of £88.4billion in 2022/23 which is an immense 40% growth over 10 years. The sector supports 427,500 direct jobs across the country, many of people working in aviation are specialists in their field of operation. ADS Group which reveals the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors added £38.2bn in value to the UK economy in 2023 which is a brilliant growth of 50% in the last 10 years.
Meeting MRO contacts
Matt Pallett headed straight for two of our existing clients who were exhibiting at MRO Europe to say hello and ask how things were. The consensus for both businesses was ‘very busy’ which is great news considering the same could not be said for when we started working with aviation clients!
Matt had a really busy diary for his time in Barcelona meeting with a range of people from the UK and some from further afield too! From talking about landing gears to engine repair, and all of the tooling on the ground that requires calibration to ensure compliance with the CAA regulations.
CoMech are becoming the calibration partner of choice for aviation businesses across the country for a few reasons. Our fast turnaround times in our UKAS laboratories help of course but so does our tooling and equipment understanding and ability to provide repairs if anything fails calibration. Also embraced by our aviation sector clients is our asset management software which provides a full audit trail whether we complete the calibrations to traceable or UKAS standards, in our laboratories or onsite with our engineers attending when required.
It’s a brilliant time to be in the sector and watching the passion and expertise on show in places like MRO Europe. We’ll perhaps see you in London in 2025 and we’ll perhaps have an exhibition stand so you can meet all of the CoMech team (well not all as we’ll need to leave our engineers doing what they do best on a daily basis!).
